Jennifer Wilson: Grant Us Tomorrow – a medical memoir

In 2004, as a family physician and mother of five young children, Jennifer Wilson had an epiphany. She realized that while she had been diligently focused on the needs of her family and her community, it was time to offer what she could to her global neighbours.

On her 37th birthday, she left her young family for two-weeks and, together with a handful of health care colleagues, went to offer her services in Northern Ghana.

That first mission expanded to become an international collaboration spanning fifteen years and transforming thousands of lives. Detailing the health challenges in one of Africa’s most impoverished regions, this book illuminates grinding global inequalities while offering hope that each of us can play a role in transforming our world.

Dr. Wilson has recently been appointed as the Canadian consultant of Family and Emergency Medicine and Director of International Partnerships at the Leyaata Hospital in Ghana, West Africa. Still a proud resident of her hometown, Uxbridge—where she and her husband have raised their five children—Jennifer continues to practice medicine there, as both a family and an emergency room physician.

She recently returned to school to complete a Master’s Degree in Public Health with a Collaborative Specialization in Global Health at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto where she is a Lecturer in the Department of Family and Community Medicine.
